Why Chicken Feed Matters

You are what your chickens eat.

Many of us choose to raise chickens for food, whether they’re layers or meat birds. When it comes to putting food on your family’s table, it’s important to make sure what our chickens are eating is nourishing and healthy: GMO-free ingredients, with protein, whole grains, and calcium for strong egg shells!

Your chickens are an important part of your life.

Chickens are often a part of our own families! For many of us, one of the best parts of chicken ownership is watching them grow from chicks, to pullets, to hens (layers or meat birds). Feeding your chickens the best quality ingredients is essential to giving them a great, long life (5-10 years on average).

You want beautiful hens and eggs.

We humans eat fruits and vegetables and take supplements for strong muscles, clear skin, and shiny nails and hair. Healthy feed will help your layers grow up strong with beautiful feathers. It will also help them lay stronger eggs, rich in protein and nutrients, that you will eat later…it’s a symbiotic relationship!

At The Eugene Backyard Farmer, we want to make it as easy as possible to choose the best quality feed for your chickens at any stage of life. That’s why we offer Union Point Custom Feeds and Scratch & Peck Feeds made with local, soy-free, GMO-free, organic and specialty ingredients that will help your flock thrive.

Give us a call, visit the shop, and talk to us about your chickens! We are always happy to help you find the right feed for your flock.
