The Eugene Backyard Farmer

Backyard Farming. Urban Homesteading Sustainablity
The Eugene Backyard Farmer

Hello from Kevin

I am Kevin Schaffer, and it is a great honor to introduce myself, along with my family, as the new owners of The Eugene Backyard Farmer.

In 2010, Bill Bezuk opened The Eugene Backyard Farmer in a vacant auto garage and transformed the space into Eugene’s premier urban farming store, serving the needs of local homesteaders in a way that traditional feed stores do not.

Our aim is to stay true to Bill’s vision for the store while continuing to grow the business, providing top quality feed, supplies, and plants that will help your backyard farm thrive.  And of course, we will continue to offer chicks – the first ones arrive February 7!

You’ll see another new face in the store soon, that of Evan Hiett, who will be co-managing store operations. Both of us share Bill’s passion for urban farming. Evan’s family has been in the feed business for 3 generations. I spent many happy hours growing up chasing chickens and helping out with my family’s backyard farm and community garden space. Evan and I have been friends for over a decade and worked together at the Hiett’s feed store between college classes.

We are so grateful to Bill for his years of dedication and service to you and The Eugene Backyard Farmer. We look forward to continuing to serve the communities of Eugene and Springfield and we hope you will stop by to say hello!

By the way, Sonia and Sophie, our shop cats, will still be here to greet you and “help”!
